Kaya

Meet Kaya!  This lovely little girl is the last of a trio that came to CARE from a breeding situation.  While we don’t know how they were kept or cared for, we can tell from their behavior that they were not kept as family pets.  Kaya is 5 years old and weighs approximately 15 lbs.
Kaya came into her foster home completely frightened of humans and any interaction.  She huddled with her two friends and always hid in the back of the pack when her foster mom would come into their room to feed or interact with them.  Her two pals have since been adopted and Kaya is now ready to find a loving home of her own.  Kaya was not housetrained and did not know how to walk on a leash when she first arrived.  She didn’t know anything about treats or toys or human kindness.  She is now learning all these things in her foster home and is slowly beginning to enjoy what it means to be a free dog.  Kaya walks nicely on a leash and is learning to do her business outside.  She will still need training in this area and a regular schedule and using a crate can quickly accomplish this task.  She is still very shy of people and would do best in a home where there is another dog(s) so that she feels safe.  Her ideal adopter will be someone who is willing to be patient with her while she learns how to trust and feel comfortable in a home environment.
Like most Bichons, she is very, very sweet and mostly quiet.  She is slowly allowing her foster mom to pet her and is taking delicious treats from her hand.  This is truly a rescue situation and watching one of these dogs learn to love life is a wonderful experience.   If you think you can allow this little flower to blossom, please ask for Kaya.
